The Star of Bethlehem, or the Star of the Magi, or the Star of the Nativity is an unusual celestial phenomenon, which, according to the Gospel of Matthew, the Eastern Magi called a star.
Seeing her at sunrise and deciding that the "King of the Jews" was born, they came to Jerusalem to worship him.
Not finding what they were looking for there, the Magi, on the advice of King Herod, went to Bethlehem of Judea. There, the Magi saw the star for the second time, after it “stopped over the place where the Child was.
When they saw the star, they rejoiced with great joy, and entering the house, they saw the Child with Mary, His Mother. A significant attribute of the celebration of the Nativity of Christ among Christians and the iconography of the Nativity of Christ and the Adoration of the Magi.
But how was it really?
Of course, an attempt to scientifically analyze such an ancient Christian symbol as the Star of Bethlehem may seem somewhat impolite to someone. However, a quiet debate among astronomers about what it could be has been going on for many decades.
Could the star that prompted the three "wise men from the East" to go in search of the newborn King be a real astronomical phenomenon?
Such a debate requires one serious assumption - that the story of the star and the journey of the Magi is true.
